Purpose
The SN Manager is responsible for the daily preparation, cooking, and serving of nutritious, high-quality meals for students and staff within the school district. This position requires a skilled and experienced individual who can lead a kitchen team, and manage inventory and costs effectively. This position requires adherence to state and federal guidelines, support of District goals and initiatives, and dedication to growing the SN program, both at their assigned school and throughout the district.
The SN Manager has an indirect reporting relationship with the School Principal. The SN Manager will provide updates or recommendations to the School Principal on matters related to student nutrition, school events, or other aspects of the school nutrition that impact the broader school environment.The SN Manager works with the School Principal to ensure that the SN program aligns with the school's overall goals and priorities.
Essential Job Duties
Demonstrate a positive, motivating, and caring attitude for students, staff and guests while representing the standards of the Belgrade School District
Supervise SN staff in the preparation, setup, and serving of all meals, ensuring a smooth operation that serves healthy meals, on time, and in a warm and inviting atmosphere
Promote teamwork within your kitchen, and address conflicts in a constructive and respectful manner
Adhere to and promote District goals and initiatives, and demonstrate a dedication to building the SN program district-wide
Collaborate with the other SN Managers build a strong team that supports the goals of the district
Effectively communicate with the School Principal and school staff in order to facilitate the goals of the SN Department
Oversee all areas of food preparation, meal serving and cleanup in accordance with District, State and USDA Guidelines
Develop menus and recipes, ensuring that all meals meet standards and are healthy and appealing
Maintain all mandatory records accurately and in a timely manner
Demonstrate proper cooking methods and techniques, emphasizing good nutrition and serving quality food
Handle food according to proper sanitation regulations and follow safety standards
Procure food and supplies, maintaining an accurate inventory, while controlling waste and effectively managing cost
Assist with food preparation for special events, school functions, or other district-related activities as needed
Complete mandatory training hours in a timely manner
Maintain and update school nutrition skills by attending workshops or conferences, and reading professional publications
Ability to attend mandatory meetings outside of regularly scheduled work hours
Punctual and consistent attendance is an essential part of the job
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of food management, nutrition, and applicable safety regulations
Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely in both oral and written communications
Ability to perform the basic math skills involved in recipe conversions, procurement, inventory and production records
Ability to set priorities, work as part of a team, and tolerate frequent interruptions
Ability to quickly learn software applications used by School Nutrition
Possess knowledge of materials and methods used in cooking
Possess knowledge of kitchen equipment and how it operates
Demonstrate personal hygiene and maintain a neat appearance
Possess knowledge of sanitation standards and chemical use in the kitchen
Flexibility to work irregular hours depending on the needs of the SN Department
Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school staff
Ability to problem solve to analyze and resolve issues as they come up
Ability to maintain confidentiality of student matters
Ability to perform duties in accordance with all District, State and Federal requirements
Skill in adhering to safety practices
Possess physical strength, stamina, and endurance with the ability to do vigorous manual work and heavy lifting
Required Qualifications
Any combination of training, education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school
Minimum of 2 years in a commercial kitchen or restaurant, at least 1 of which must be in a K-12 or residential environment
Minimum of 6 months managing a team or supervising employees in any environment
Demonstrate a strong knowledge of K-12 or residential food services operations
Ability to effectively operate commercial kitchen machinery and equipment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in business management
Experience with procurement and inventory
Necessary Special Requirements
Must have or be able to quickly complete Food Managers Certification
Must complete USDA Professional Standard Training Requirements as required for continued employment
